Ella Hamilton Durley (Mrs. Preston B.) by Ida B. Proper. 1852-1922. Author, Writer, Journalist. Born at Harrisville, Pennsylvania, 1852. Removed to Davis County, Iowa, 1866. Taught school in Waterloo, Iowa, and at East High School, Des Moines, one year. Member of the State Board of Educational Examiners, 1884-1888. Active in newspaper work in Des Moines, 1886 and extending over a period of twenty-five years. Married to Preston B. Durley, 1886. Worked on the Des Moines Saturday Mail. Wrote under the name "Judith Jorgenson" for the Des Moines Daily News. Editor of the Homemaker Magazine and associate editor of the National Daily Review. Author of two novels, "My Solider Lady?" nad "The Standpatter". Founder, Home of the Aged, Des Moines. President of various women's clubs. Rendered valuable service to Charles Aldrich in founding Historical Department of Iowa. Removed to Los Angles, California, August 14, 1992.
