James C. Savery b y Sarony. 1826-1905. Hotel and mine operator. Born at Wareham, Massachusetts, November 30, 1826. Removed to Des Moines, 1855. Operated a hotel in log house at S.E. Corner Third and Walnut Streets. Built first Savery Hotel (later the Kirkwood). Member of American Emigrant Co. Engaged in developing a gold mine at Cable, Montana. Had been one of the "forty-niners" in the California gold rush. His remains were brought back to Des Moines in accordance with his wishes. Died in Cable, Montana, August 21, 1905. 36.5" x 32"
