Johnathan Chapin Halll by George Harvey. 1808-1874. Lawyer, judge, legislator, railroad organizer. Bonr in Batavia, New York, February 27, 1808. Practiced law in Ohio for eight years. Removed to Burlington, Iowa, 1839 and to Mount Pleasant, 1840. Led fight against the Negro in the Constitutional Convention, 1846. One of the organizers and first president of Burlington and Missouri Railroad, 1855. Judge of Iowa Supreme Courtm 1854-1855. Member of the Constitutional Convention, 1857. Representative, 8, 8Ex General Assembly, 1860-1862. Assisted in founding academy which afterwards became basis of Iowa Wesleyan College. Died in Burlington, Iowa, June 11, 1874. 39" x 34.5"
