John Grimes Walker by Robert Hinckley. 1835-1907. Admiral, US Navy. Born in Hillsborough, New Hampshire, March 20, 1835. Removed to Burlington, Iowa, 1847. Graduate of Annapolis Naval Academy, 1856. Served with Farragut and Porter in capture of New Orleans, Civil War. Instructor at Annapolis, 1859-1860. Promoted to Commander, 1866 and to Commodore, 1889, when he commanded the White Squadron. Promoted to Rear-Admiral in 1894 and put in command of Pacific Squadron. President of Nicaragua Cana Commission, 1897, and of the Isthmiam Canal Commission, 1899. Died in Ogonquit, Maine, September 16, 1907, Interment, Arlington Cemetery.
