Object Name Stretcher
Description Carpet stretcher and tacker. Belonged to Homer and Alice (Reeves) Ogan of Sandyville, then of Indianola, Warren Count, Iowa. Used to stretch home-woven carpet (made in strips and sewed together to fit room, wall to wall). Straw was used underneath for warmth. The tacks were placed in the metal track and the carpet was stretched tight close to the baseboard and the tacks put in place one by one with hand pressure on the iron (rod) driver.
