James Faulkner Wilson by Alma Glasgow White. 1828-1895. Lawyer, legislator, Congressman, US Senator. Born at Newark, Ohio, October 19, 1828. Practiced law in Newark, Ohio, 1851-1853. Removed to Fairfield, Iowa, 1853 and resumed the practice of law. Member of the Contitutional Convention, 1857. Representative 7th Iowa General Assembly, 1857-1859. Senator, 8th, 8th Extra, Iowa General Assembly, 1859-1861. Delegate to Democratic National Convention, Baltimore, 1860. US Congressman from Iowa, 1861-1869 and US Senator, 1883-1895. Declined office of Secretary of State in President Grant's Cabinet. Appointed by President Grant as Director of the Union Pacific Railroad, serving eight years. Died in Fairfield, Iowa, April 22, 1895.
