John Fletcher Lacey was an eight-term Republican congressman from Iowa's 6th congressional district. He was first elected into the Iowa House of Representative for a term starting in 1870. In 1888, Lacy ran against James Weaver for congress and defeated. He was up for re-election in 1890 and was defeated by Frederick Edward White. Two years later Lacey defeated White and continued to serve as congressmen for seven consecutive terms. In 1906, when running for his ninth term, Lacey was defeated by Daniel W. Hamilton. One thing to note is Lacey was the author of the Lacey Act 1900, which was the first wildlife conservation law.
