This award of First Honor to an Iowa soldier in the regular Army because of the merit of himself and his organization at the taking of Vicksburg (Civl War), and other military actions related thereto, was found among the papers of Mrs. Cora L. (Roberts) Jones, after he death at May, Idaho with the badge of the same soldier. Mrs. Gertrude L. Hoff, 1010-18th Street, Des Moines, sister of Mrs. Jones asked that the relics be kept in the State Historical Dept subjct only to the established claims of any relative who may hereafter be found. Nothing is known of Mr. Fry. Mrs. Hoff had reason to think he might have bene married to Mrs,. Jones, but does not know. She has made diligent search for information as to Mr. Fry but found only that he drew a pension and died in 1915.
