Part owner and editor Anamosa Eureka, 1857-1863. In publishing business, Davenport, Iowa, 1863-1869. Iowa State Binder, 1879-1884. Mayor of Waterloo, Iowa for three terms; in 1883 he became sole owner of the Reporter, soon afterwards admitting his sons as partners, when the firm was known as Matt Parrott and Sons. State Senator, 21, 22, 23, 24 General Assemblies, 1886-1894. Lieutenant Governor, 1896-1898. Died in Battle Creek, Michigan, April 21, 1900.
