Damask, autographed with typed list of contributors. This tablecloth is one of the projects sponsored by Johnson County Chapter of the American Red Cross during the early days of World War II. Each autograph was paid for and inscribed by a generous and patriotic citizen or visiting celebrity. The idea was suggested by an RAF flyer stationed in this country for training; the cloth was donated by the wife of a member of the State University of Iowa faculty; the embroidery was done and contributed by the Misses Mildred and Gertrude Greer who are grand-nieces of former governor Samuel S. Kirkwood.
