Frank Springer by Louis Mayer. 1848-1927. Scientist, author, legislator. Born at Wapello, Iowa, June 17, 1848. Participated in law in Des Moines and Louisa counties. Special prosecuting attorney, Burlington, Iowa. Being interested in extension of Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad, he removed to Territory of New Mexico in 1873. Employed as attorney for the Maxwell Land Grant Company, New Mexico, a corporation owning a valuable Mexican grant of nearly two million acres of land in New Mexico and Colorado, which afterwards became the subject of a famous litigation against the government in the US Circuit and Supreme Courts. Removed to Las Vegas, New Mexico, in 1883. Associated with Professor Wachamuth in the collection and publication of works of crinoids. Died September 22, 1927.
