Liberty Brick taken from Independence Hall, Philadelphia. From Accession Book: "The brick and the case in which it was enclosed had been made use of in various meetings to advance the cause of bond selling and was presented to the schools of Iowa ofr their splendid co-operation in the war work. The present plan is to have the brick remain permanently in the State Historical Building. The gift was received by Ora Williams, Curator in his office. The brick was one of a nubmer taken out of cornices, window ledges and other portions of Independence Hall several years ago when it became necessary to repair weather damage. Fifty-two of the best ones were preserved by a group of Philadelphia citizens and later turned over to the United States Treasury which now is distributing one to each state in recognition of the work of school children during the war bond campaign. During these campaigns in Iowa, the brick traveled to schools in 50 counties." Presentation by Mrs. Carlton.
