Object Name Handkerchief
Description Hand-Embroidered, handmade cotton 18.5" square, given by a Southern woman to donor's grandfather, M.J. Seeds, Mediapolis, Iowa who died at the Old Soldier's Home at Marchalltown, Iowa April 6, 1925. The Southern woman who gave it to him heard him read from his Bible daily to wounded soldiers, and when he discovered her hiding behind something and heard that the reason she did so was because she had no Bible, he gave her his having a chaplain's Bible from which he could read, and she gave him this handerchief which she had woven and made from cotton she had helped produce. It represented her finest gift in appreciation for the chance to own the Holy Writ.
