Description Sarah G. Clarke Davenport , c1819-July 11, 1888, (Mrs. George L.) by Unknown artist. Probably born in Tullamorie, Ireland, as records show her sister was born there. Emigrated to Davenport, Iowa. Married to George L. Davenport, 1838, this being the first entry in parish book of Saint Anthony's Church.
The following information was added on 1/25/2014.

The artist is possibly Karl Schmalhaus. Schmalhaus is listed as the artist for 00492, Portrait of George L. Davenport.

It is not clear when Sarah Clarke moved to Davenport. According to a History of Scott County (1910), the William and Catherine Clarke family settled in Brown County, Ohio, presumably in the 1820s or early 1830s.

Mary, the oldest of the daughters married George Meyers of Rock Island, date unkown. A third daughter Rose lived with Sarah Davenport. Rose married G. C. R Mithcell of Davenport in 1852.
According to the 1910 history, Sarah Davenport and Rose Mitchell "were considered the best housekeepers in Davenport."

In 1860, the Federal Population census listed the following children: George (age 19), Joseph (18), Naomi (17), Catherine (16), William (15), Henry (12) and Ebenezer (10 months). Also in the household are Sarah's mother "Catharine Clark" and three servants Christina Bruce (22), Catherin O'Brien (17) and Michael Coughlin (34).

In 1870, the household listed George (Banker, 53), Sarah (Keeping house, 47) , Naomi (24), Kate (22), Ebenezer (11), George (28) and servants Briget O'Brien (22), Susan Clair (18) and Gustav Lange (34).

In 1880, the census lists Sarah (60), Naomi (34), Kate (32) and Ebenezer (21)

Her grave marker in Davenport lists her age as 68 years 6 months and 16 days, thus making her birth late in 1819, about December 25, 1819.
