Uniform of Ivan Lewis White (1897-1918), of rural Sigourney, Keokuk County, Donated by Mrs. A.L. Covington. Ivan Lewis White, son of Lewis White and Margaret Kerkove; born March 29, 1897;
Joined the U.S. Navy on July 22, 1918, Des Moines, Iowa; sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, July 23; stationed at Camp Decatur where attached to Co. 429, 8 Reg.; transfered to Co. G, 5 Reg. Camp Perry, 2 sec., August 1; taken sick with influenza; died with pneumonia September 26, 1918 Great Lakes Naval Training Station
a. Shirt, blue wool, wide collar with white banding and two white stars, drawstring waist, I.L. White stenciled in hem, 24.5" long
b. Pants, blue wool, button bib-front closure, straight leg, laces at back, 41.5" long, 31" waist.
c. Coat, blue wool, double-breasted, anchors and stars on buttons, I.L. White stenciled in lining, 34" long.
