Description William Stevens Perry by Caroline E. Deckert. 1832-1898. Educator, Historian, Theologian, Writer. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, January 22, 1832. Pastor and Professor of history in the East, occupying for a time the chair of history in Hobart College. Historiographer of Episcopal Church in America, 1868. bishop of Iowa, 1876-1898. Honorary degrees conferred upon him by Oxford University, England, and Trinity College, Dublin. Writings confined chiefly to church history. Died in Dubuque, Iowa, May 13, 1898.
