Description Found by William J. Matthews tied to Jesse James' horse during a bank holdup somewhere in Illinois. The horse was shot while Jesse was escaping, so he abandoned the horse and rifle. Matthews (grandfather of donor) was hiding in the bush as the robbery occurred and grabbed the rifle. He used it in the Indian uprising around Keokuk
