Description Albert Baird Cummins by A.F. Nyholm. Lawyer, Governor, U.S. Senator. Born near Carmichaels, Pennsylvania, February 15, 1850. Removed to Iowa, 1869, locating in Des Moines about 1878 where he practiced law. Representative, 22nd General Assembly 1888-1890. Member Republican National Committee, 1896-1900. Governor of Iowa, 1902-1908. Supported by Iowa for Presidential nomination, 1912 and 1916. United States Senator, 1908-1926. President of United States Senate and acting Vice-President, 1923-1925. Delegate to every Republican state and national convention from 1880 until his death. Broke barbwire monopoly as attorney for American farmers. Co-author of Esch-Cummins Act to restore railroads to their owners. Died in Des Moines, July 30, 1926. 41'' x 57''
