William Boyd Allison by W.E. Marshall. 1829-1908. Lawyer, statesman. Born in Perry, Wayne County, Ohio, March 2, 1892. Practiced law in Ashland, Ohio. Removed to Dubuque, Iowa, 1857 and resumed practice of law. United States Congressman, 1863-1871. United States Senator. 1873-1908. At one time the statesman with the record of longest continuous service in United States Congress. Delegate to National Convention which nominated Lincoln at Chicago, 1860. Adjuctant-General of Iowa under Governor Kirkwood, redered marked service in fitting troops of Iowa for participation in Civil War. Serious contender for nomination for President of United States, 1888. Died in Dubuque, Iowa, August 4, 1908. There is also a portrait of Allison as a young man - on stairway.
