John Forrest Dillon by George H. Yewell. 1831-1914. Physician, Judge, Teacher, Author. Born in Montgomery County, New York, December 25, 1831. Removed to Davenport, Iowa Territory, 1837. Commenced study of medicine when seventeen years of age; graduated as a physician at College of Physicians and Surgeons at Davenport, 1850, founder of State Medical Society at Burlington, 1850. Judge, District court, 1858; Iowa Supreme Court, 1864-1870. Appointed by President Grant, Judge, United States Circuit Court, 1869. Professor of Law, Columbia University, New York, 1879. Author of Dillon's Municipal Corportations. Died in New York, May 5, 1914.
